Well, we survived our first trip to New York with the kids. I have to admit the closer we got to the trip the more I was getting scared that taking them was a terrible idea. Colby did great. He was facinated, and maybe a little intimidated, by all the crazy things going on around him that he is not accustomed to. He loved to look out the windows of the hotel to see all the cars and buses passing, especially the police cars and fire trucks. His favorite part of the trip was the public transportation. He quickly learned that going down the stairs from the street meant we were getting on a train. He liked the buses the best. He also rode in some taxis, took a carriage ride through Central Park, and rode a ferry. I didn't see it, but my Mom swears he tried to wave down a taxi while we were waiting on a street corner! With the airplane ride there and back we figure the only form of transportation he hasn't experienced is a helicopter ride. He'll have to save up for that experience when he is older. For a little boy who loves trains, planes, and automobiloes, he was in heaven. The other highlight of his trip was a visit to the M&M store in Times Square. Three floors of M&Ms and paraphenalia. All I heard the entire time we were in there was, "Mommy look, M&Ms!" as he pointed to everything he saw that had an M&M on it (which was everything in the store). He was an angel in restaurants, took a few naps on longer bus rides, and even kept up on his potty training.
Carter was a little bit of a different story. He was not overly impressed by being drug around all day and constantly woken up from his naps to get in and out of the stroller and on and off buses and trains. Trying to feed him in public was also kind of a pain. He had a few major melt downs in restaurants at night when he had had enough. Overall though, he was still pretty good as well. Having the family there was a life saver. He got passed around to just about everyone. We must be the only crazy tourists who take babies to NYC because everywhere we went people were oohing and ahhing over the kids. I was starting to think people in NY had never seen babies before!
Jordan wanted to be the ultimate tourist on this trip and we were able to fit in everything he wanted to do. We took bus tours around the whole city, went to the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock Observation Deck in NBCs Studio, a Yankees game, Central Park, China Town, Times Square, Grand Central Station, Staten Island Ferry, and the huge firework show. He usually never wants to go somewhere twice, but has already said he would want to go back, so I guess that means it was a good trip. Since we didn't do anything cultural, like broadway shows or museums, we would try to fit those kinds of things in next time. We enjoyed spending time with the family and seeing where Jon and Anna live. It is such a different life style you kind of feel like you are in a different country. We are glad to be home in the peace and quiet! I was slightly dissapointed that I didn't see anyone famous since I have never seen a famous person (that I'm aware of). Jon and Anna saw Ivanca Trump while they were waiting on us to show up for breakfast, so I guess I missed my chance by just a few moments. I made up for it by making some special late night trips for some amazing cupcakes and cheesecake. The cheesecake we got the last night was amazing and so rich I couldn't finish it, so I took it home on the plane with me and finished it up at home. Yep, it sat out for 8-9 hours and I still ate it. I usually naroctic about eating food that has been sitting out, but that's how good it was!
