Apple Orchard

I took the kids to the orchard today play and pick apples. After getting my first ever speeding ticket, followed by getting lost for an hour thanks to Mapquest's bad directions and with road closures, we finally made it. I tried to not let our adventure there ruin the trip to the "farm" that Colby was sooo excited about. We started out in the play area which had all kinds of things for the kids to do. They played on the playground, jumped in the piles of straw, went through a straw maze, crawled through corn husk tunnels...

drove the tractors...

climbed the straw mountains...
went through the sunflower maze...

went through the rope course maze...

and played in the sandbox.
Then, we were off to pick apples. They each grabbed a wagon and a bucket and went to work. Colby did an excellent job of picking apples from the trees and even informed me that they way you pick them is to twist them off. There was no shortage of apples. I had to cut them off because they would have gone forever. Carter mostly picked his off the ground, so I had to go through them when he wasn't watching and throw back all the ones that were bruised, broken, or half eaten.

We finished our trip with a visit to the orchard store for apple cider slushies. Thankfully, we made it home uneventfully!
