All the Pops

Last Christmas I discovered cake balls through gifts and cookie exchanges. I immediately fell in love, but had no idea how to make them. The insides were truffle-like and I assumed they were very difficult to make. Months later, I looked it up online and was surprised how simple they were...just 3 store bought ingredients. I tried making the balls a few times, and although they were tasty, they weren't near as pretty as the ones I'd been given. Then I discovered cake pops. Basically, cake balls on a sucker stick decorated into all kinds of cute little creatures. I volunteered to make baked goods for a lemonade stand/bake sale fundraiser for a little girl with cancer whose nickname is "Brave Bee". I thought making bee cake pops would be perfect. They turned out so cute and were a big hit. From there, the cake pops have taken off. I was asked to teach a class at our ward's craft night which forced me to really perfect the process. I try to take pictures of my pops before I give them away (or eat them). I think the only ones I'm missing are the owls, which are adorable, so I wish I had a picture, but I'm sure I will make them again someday. Check back in about a month for the Christmas pops I plan to make for holiday treat sharing.

Here are the bees that I made for the fundraiser. We also made them at the two different classes I taught at church (YW activity and Fantastic Friday).

Colby brought treats into preschool for his birthday. It was "A" and apple week at school so we made apples. I forgot to take pictures, so I snapped this picture as I was walking out the door.

And I also made these green monsters for the class treat.

These Monsters are Mike and Sully from Monster's Inc. They were for Colby's birthday party with his friends.

The Elmo cake pops we made in Boise for my nephew Jacob's birthday.

I made the popcorn boxes as a display for Fantastic Friday and also for a birthday present for one of my Miamaids.

These are just pretty ones I was playing around with.

Most of my pops are copies from Bakerella's site and book (www.bakerella.com). I had been eyeing these ones and when I had all the materials out for Fantastic Friday I made these two just to try them out. They weren't as hard as they looked. I think they would be so cute as wedding favors or as place setting cards at a wedding dinner if you put tags on them.

For Ryan's birthday I sent him these angry bird pops. Unfortunately they didn't make it and got sent back to me slightly melted and mangled. I made him different ones and we ate these ones. They were mangled, but still tasted good!

I made these Halloween pumpkins, ghosts and black cats for a Halloween party for a friend.

This was my biggest project yet. I made 90 of these pops for Young Women's in Excellence. I made about 12 of each value color. I wish I would have gotten a picture of them all displayed at once. We arranged them in small vases with one of each color. They were a HUGE hit. I thought I would have tons of extras but they got snatched up quickly.

I started out just making either chocolate or vanilla, but I have ventured out to try lots of new flavors too. I've done lemon, spice, carrot, chocolate-carmel-tofee crunch (think better than sex cake in cake pop form. YUM!!), and chocolate peanut butter. My next to try is chocolate-cherry. I'm going to try to put a maraschino cherry in the middle and flavor the icing with a little cherry.
