Memorial Day Weekend Camping

We headed down Santa Claus, IN for Memorial Day weekend for some camping and fun at Holiday World (an amusement park in Southern Indiana). We arrived Friday evening and set up camp at Lake Rudolph, the camp ground right by the park, then cooked dinner, and had a camp fire with smores. Our camp neighbors happened to be from the same town, and even though we don't know them, their daughter goes to the same preschool that our boys go to. Small world. The boys were happy to have a friend to play with that evening. It got down to the 40s the first night, so it was a little chilly and I don't think any of us slept all that well. Carter woke up at one point demanding baby Goofy (a stuffed animal he is apparently more attached to than we thought) but we eventually got him back to sleep. If you are wondering how I managed camping nearly 7 months pregnant, I brought an air mattress with real sheets and my pillow. I actually slept much better than I thought I would. The next day we were up and off to Holiday World. The weather was perfect. It started off cool and cloudy in the low 70s then the sun came out for a few hours later in the day. Once the sun was out we headed to the water park. Unfortunately, it was just a little cold for swimming and the water was freezing, so we didn't spend as much time there as we needed to ride everything, but the boys had fun with the water rides they did ride. Carter needs to grow about a half of an inch to be able to ride most of the bigger water rides, so he and I had to hang out in the little kid areas while Jordan and Colby rode the bigger ones. He is already looking forward to his next visit when he is big enough. Poor Chloe had to spend the day in the park kennel. We had another camp fire that evening but the kids and Chloe were so exhausted that they put themselves to bed. They went into the tent "to rest" and when Jordan went to ask them something a few minutes later they were already asleep. It wasn't quite as cold and we were all tired, so we slept really well that second night.

On Sunday we just hung around the camp ground enjoying all the activities they had there. The first thing we had to do was go fishing. I think the boys wanted to fish more than they wanted to go to Holiday World. Luckily, the fish were biting and they each caught 2 or 3.

All I really did was help the boys hold the pole. As soon as they caught something we yelled for Jordan. We was busy the whole time either getting the poles and hooks ready, or releasing the caught fish.

Later that day we went swimming, played on the playground, and then headed back to our spot for dinner and the last camp fire. The boys were still hooked on fishing and were pretending to fish in the bucket.

So, when I was pregnant with Colby I avoided the camera like the plague. There are only a few preggo pics of me. But, with each pregnancy it seems there are more and more pregnant pics of me. One day, when I don't look like this, I won't mind these pics, but at the moment they are definitely not my favorite! It also doesn't help that I didn't bring or wear any makeup all weekend. We bought our first dutch oven before this trip and made a yummy cobbler one night and a breakfast casserole the next night. The kids weren't impressed, but Jordan and I were excited about our success with cooking in it for the first time.

Here is Colby clearly not loving the dutch oven dinner! We told him we were having breakfast food, but he had French toast in mind, not sausage, egg, hash brown, and cheese casserole!

One quick picture of our camp spot before we tore it all own to leave. It was a beautiful camp ground. This was also our first time using our new tent, which worked out wonderfully.
