What We Did in May

I feel like May has really been a month for us to settle into a routine and fully adapt to life with two kids. We stayed home all month and didn't have any visitors, which doesn't happen too often. I've decided the key to keeping the kids happy and me sane is to keep busy and not stay home. When we stay home Colby gets bored, starts whining, and I start counting down minutes until map time. We try to get out of the house most mornings. Mondays are story time at the library, Wednesdays are park group with the ward. We throw in a morning of grocery shopping and occasional get togethers with friends, or visiting teaching, or treasure hunting at garage sales and the week flys right by. Colby loves the library. He picks up as many books as I will let him, plays with the few toys they keep in the corner of the kids section, and is the life of the party when they do the rhyme songs during story time. He is still slightly tramatized every time we have to take the books back, but I have told him we have to share the books with the other kids. He seems satisfied with that explanation, but will still talk about it for a few days every time we return them. I'm very surprised that grocery shopping goes extremely smoothly with two kids. Carter is happy to sit in his car seat and look around and Colby also sits in the cart with a little bribery! I'm guessing it will get much more tricky when Carter is out of the car seat.
Colby still takes his naps at 1:00 pm every day and I try to get Carter to sleep for at least a portion of Colby's nap so I can get a few things done. By the time Colby gets up around 3:30 pm, Jordan is home from work. I love that he gets home so early. He and Colby ususally spend the majority of thier evening at the park or run errands together. If Colby had his way he would live at the park. When they return its dinner, bath, then bed time.

Since we had some down time this month I decided it was the perfect time to begin potty training. This is about our third attempt, but this time I said I was not buying diapers for him again which would really force me to stick to it. We just completed week three and he has only actually gone in the potty a handful of times. I'm so sick of doing his laundry! He was dry all day today, so maybe we have made a break through.

When I took Carter in for pictures a month or so ago I noticed they had pictures of pets displayed. I asked if I could bring in the kids and dog for pictures thinking a picture of the boys with Chloe would make a great father's day gift. I was so excited for my "great" idea. I went out and bought them matching outfits, and even got up really early that morning to give everyone baths and make sure they looked just perfect. Well, the photo shoot was a complete flop. Colby didn't want to hold Carter and every time we got Chloe in place she would move. Finally I had to be in the picture with them which really wasn't the idea. I was so frusterated that I came home and told Jordan about it. He laughed that I would even try such a thing. We did get a few ok pics with just the boys, so I will pass them on when we get them back. I'm still looking for my next great idea. We're also getting ready to celebrate Jordan's 30th birthday in a few weeks. If you have any great ideas for that, let me know.

Colby continues to make us laugh as he loves to entertain. Its fun to watch him grow and learn. He is starting to carry on actual conversations with us--he doesn' t just say yes when we ask him a question. Whenever he and Jordan go somewhere he runs inside and is so excited to tell me about the park or the M&Ms Dad bought for him. He knows his colors and is working on his shapes and counting. Carter is getting better by the day at playing with toys and finding ways to entertain himself--not that he wants to be held any less. Today he was in his activity gym and was reaching and twisting and turning to get to the toys he wanted. He started cereal this week. The hope was that it would help him sleep, but on the days he has had it, he has actually done worse...so much for that idea. He seems to like it and I bet he'll be a great eater just like Colby was.
