Mother's Day Weekend Marathon

Our Mother's Day weekend stated out with a visit from Jordan's parents. They were visiting at the end of thier 30 some day road trip across the U.S. They arrived Friday around noon and as tradition when parents come into town, we went out to eat! We decided on Olive Garden.

On the way to eat
Carter enjoying his food...as always!
Colby refuses to pose for pictures lately...and more than likely he didnt' eat much
The candy bars! Colby is always collecting something and carrying it around. This weekend it was an entire Sam's Club size package of full size candy bars that he put in this jar and carried around, distributing the candy bars to who he wanted, when he wanted.
Carter is so proud of his new talent of running...or walking really fast. He tries so hard to be like Colby.

Friday afternoon Grandpa bought Colby and Carter a basketball hoop. They loved it!

Saturday morning was the race. Jordan ran in the 500 Festival Mini Marathon. This was his first race of any kind. He used to be against paying to run, but finally gave in and signed up so he would be motivated to continue running through the winter. For those who dont' know about it, here's the blub from the website:

The Mini has sold-out for the past nine years with 35,000 registrants, and an additional 4,000 participants in the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K. The Mini-Marathon is the largest half-marathon in the U.S., and overall, the fifth largest running event in America. The 2010 event sold out on December 14, 2009. Not only the largest half-marathon in the U.S., but the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon received praise in Runners World, listed as one of "A Half Dozen Hot Halfs" in the world, based on participant experience in the 13.1-mile half-marathon.

So there you go. It's a pretty big deal around here. You always here about the "mini" and its kind of the thing to do. I actually had no idea how big it actually was until this year.

I don't think I've ever seen so many bananas, apples, gatorade, etc. These pictures don't even show all of it. It takes a lot to feed 35,000 runners!
Not knowing what to expect, we got down there way too early. It was cold and we were all a little underdressed, but we stuck it out and waited at the finish line. We saw the first runners come through and then kept our eyes glued on the masses of people crossing the line so we could shout out to Jordan. The kids sat in the stroller, tired and cold, for most of the time. By the end, they started getting really upset, and in the chaos of it all we missed Jordan. I was so disappointed. I don't get up that early on a Saturday for nothing!
We finally caught up with him in the family greeting area and he gave us a run down of his run. His official time was 1 hour and 59 minutes averaging 9:06 minute miles. He finished 8,492 overall in the race, 1,071 out of 2,188 in his division and 6,090 out of 14,446 for the male division. We're so proud of him for exceeding his expectations...all he wanted to do was finish without walking any of it. He has yet to commit to any future runs, but I have a feeling he'll be back.
Later that day Jordan, Gordon, and Cater all took naps while Mary, Colby, and I did a little shopping. That evening Jordan and I left the kids with Grammy and Grandpa and went out to a movie (Ironman 2) with some friends. We got back pretty late and everyone was asleep. When we woke up, Jordan's parent swere gone! Colby has yet to tell us what he did to them to make them leave, but it must have been a rough night! Really, they were just anxious to get home and were trying to beat some bad weather or something. We enjoyed a quiet Mother's Day with church in the afternoon and a nice dinner that evening at home. It was an exciting weekend and we always love having family visit.
