We signed Colby up for Soccer at the YMCA for a 4 week parent/child clinic. It was the only thing he was able to do at his age since you have to be 4 to play in actual organized team sports. We geared him up and got him excited about it beforehand and went as a family to the first practice. He loved playing with all the balls before the class, but as soon as it started he got shy and didn't want to participate. With a lot of encouragement and bribery, we got him to do a few of the drills, but he really had no interest. He was only doing them because we were making him. At the end they put the balls away and did some races (run to the fence and back) which he loved. I joked that maybe track, not soccer would be his thing. The second week he was even worse. He refused to participate in any of the drills and spent his time whining that he wanted to be picked up, or was thirsty, or anything else he could possibly think of that was wrong. About half way through we just left because he was on the ground crying. After that, we decided it may be better if Jordan just take him so he wouldn't have two parents to whine to. It seemed to work. He didn't great that week and was so excited when he got home. We thought we were past the hump, but then week 4 went about the same as week 2. In the end, we pretty much paid $50 for a t-shirt! In his defense, I will say that it was pretty boring. What 3 year old wants to kick a ball weaving in and out of cones? And he wasn't the only one refusing to participate, but we will still probably wait a while before we spend, or waste, any money on sports.
