Colby has waited...and waited...and waited...and now preschool is finally here! He has been begging to go to school for nearly a year. Every time we would drive by the elementary school near our house he would ask if he was big enough to go to school yet. Of course all he knew was that the school had a playground and assumed school meant playing all day. A few days before school started we had a meet the teacher day where we got to go to his classroom and play with the toys, read the books, etc. He was a little nervous even though I was there with him, so I expected a little bit of clinging on the actual first day of school, but he darted right into the room without ever saying goodbye. I'll admit the feeling was pretty much mutual. I was as ready for him to go to school as he was. Carter was most upset. He was saying Colby, Colby, all the way home. Now when we go to pick Colby up, Carter yells Colby! as soon as we pull into the parking lot. Today was day 4 and he loves it. If you ask Colby what he did at school, he always tells you about snack time first. Anything else you have to pry out of him.
We had our first homework assignment before we school even started. We were given a blank piece of card stock to decorate. If was supposed to tell more about Colby and his family. We decorated one side with pictures of his family and the other side with pictures of his favorite TV show and movie characters and then covered the whole thing with stickers. I, of course, repositioned everything he put on to make it more attractive. The teachers will laminate it and they will use it as a place mat for snack time. We gave it to his teachers the first day of school and he as almost in tears as we were leaving school because he wanted his place mat back. He asks about it every time we go to school. Today, I finally convinced him to make a new place mat for home so he will hopefully be happy and not so upset about having to keep his place mat at school.
At first I wanted the morning class, but it was full, so we had to go with afternoons. It is actually working out perfectly because I drop Colby off, come home and put Carter down for a nap, and then have an hour and 45 minutes to myself. Its not much, but its more than I've ever had before. When Colby was baby/toddler I was working at home and had to work during nap time. Then we had Carter and as soon as I got him on a nap schedule, that's when Colby stopped taking naps. The only bad part is that I have to wake Carter up from his nap to go get Colby.
