We made our first trip to Boise, Idaho ( I had to add the Idaho because when I tell people out here we're going to Boise they look confused and say "Idaho?" Like, "there must be some other Boise she is talking about" :-)) in April. My parents relocated there the beginning of the year and after a long house hunt, finally found a place they loved. They moved in on the 15th and we arrived on the 16th. To say there was a lot of work to be done would be an understatement! The unpacking service had unpacked a majority of the boxes, but left mounds of stuff on counters, tables, and floors. There was literally not an inch of space on their counter tops when we got there. Even the sinks were full. I wish I would have taken before and after shots but we were so busy I didn't pull out my camera the entire trip. Day one we tackled the dining room, kitchen, and pantry. Then after that it's kind of a blur, but we did their master closet (this is where the mounds of stuff I mentioned before comes in. Imagine all your clothes in a huge pile in the middle of your closet), sewing room (holy cow my Mom has a LOT of stuff and we complained about this room the whole time :-)), family room, bedrooms, and bathrooms. By the time I left a week later, my goal was complete. Every box inside the house was unpacked. There was still a TON of stuff in the garage to do but I think I would have had to have been there another week for that project. Adrianna was there the first few days and Liz came the end of the week, so I didn't do it alone. It was fun to catch up with them as we worked.
The kids did really well playing while we worked. They actually let me get much more done than I thought they would. They made quite the mess of the family room over the course of the week, but we cleaned it all up before we left. Hopefully there was no lasting damage to toys, carpet, or hardwood floors! They thank Liz for letting them play with her old doll houses, barbies, and Bryer horses! Colby was just talking about the doll houses at Grandma's house the other day. They also had a blast playing with Mickey and Harley all week, although I'm sure those dogs are glad the kids are long gone. Grandma and Grandpa had an Easter egg hunt for them on Friday which they loved. The house is gorgeous and we can't wait to go back and see it all put together later this summer.
The fun story of the trip came on the plane ride home. On our second flight home from Denver to Indianapolis we sat in the very front row of the airplane. Colby had used the restroom several times on each of our flights to Boise and back, and by this flight he had the airplane bathroom thing down. When Colby announced for the 3rd time on this flight that we had to go potty I let him go by himself. I was tired of all of us squeezing into the bathroom or standing outside the door while he went potty. Since I was sitting right there in the front row, this seemed harmless. I could hear him if he called for help or stop someone else from going into the restroom while he was in there. A couple minutes after he left I saw that he was trying to open the door. I jumped up to help him only to realize that he had locked the door. I spent several minutes trying to explain to him, quietly so we wouldn't draw attention to ourselves, that he had locked the door and needed to unlock it, but all he kept saying was, "what"? Then, over the intercom I hear the flight attendant say something to the effect of, "please don't congregate in the front of the plane by the bathroom. If you need to use the rest room you must wait in your seat". I turn around and see the flight attendant walking toward me. She was about half way to the front of the plane when she says rather loudly, "you can just go in with him". I then explain to her, with the rest of the passengers listening, that he has locked himself in. She begins to try to get the door open but can't and calls up the other flight attendant. They also tried to explain to Colby how to get the door unlocked and worked together for several minutes to get the door open. Finally, they got it open, Colby ran out and into his seat, the other passengers clapped and cheered, and I ducked my head in total embarrassment. Colby was in tears because he thought he was in trouble for something, but didn't know what he had done. I don't think he even knew that he had locked the door. "Mom what did I do wrong"? he asked. It was so sad. I explained to him that he didn't do anything wrong. He quickly got over it and we enjoyed the rest of our flight. Next time we fly we will be having a lesson on how to lock and UNLOCK the bathroom doors!
