Camping and Canoes

The end of June we went camping for 2 nights in Turkey Run State Park. We did a canoe/float trip down river, then went for a hike. The boys and Chloe loved it.
While Jordan and I were setting up camp the boys were running around collecting sticks. The bigger the better...until they poked one into the tent making this perfect tear. Luckily we had duct tape. This is an old tent I picked up at a garage sale a few years ago. We figured we had gotten our use out of it and just threw it away at the end of the weekend.

The camp fire the first night was a big hit. We had hot dogs for dinner and smores for dessert. The next night we made tin foil dinners. What is it with boys and fire? Ours were little pyro maniacs just like every other boy I've ever known.

We didn't all fit in the canoe so we took turns on the tubes which we tied to the canoe

I tried so hard to get a picture of all the boys and the dog in the canoe with the covered bridge in the background. It would have been a beautiful shot...but 2 young kids...and a dog...in a canoe...with the photographer floating beside them in a tube...it was just not going to happen.

We packed a lunch and stopped half way for a picnic. The boys and the dog had a blast running and playing in the shallow water. No swimming was allowed, but there was no way to keep them out of it!

Later that day we went on a hike which the kids also loved, but we didn't take any pictures. After a long day of canoeing and hiking we all desperately needed a pick-me-up so we stopped at the camp store/restaurant for some ice cream. I don't think ice cream has ever tasted so good!

We wanted to  make it camping a second time this summer/fall but it just didn't happen. We are excited to go again in the spring with a new tent!
