Baby's First Camping Trip

We took a quick, one night, camping trip during Memorial Day Weekend. We wanted to go somewhere close in case Mason didn't enjoy sleeping in a tent and he and I needed to go home. We planned this last minute and ended up where ever we could find that still had spots available, which happened to be White River campground in Cicero. Although there was nothing exciting to do there, the campground was nice and grassy and bordered the White River. The boys spent all their time fishing. Colby even learned how to bait and cast his fishing pole. Carter also began to cast his pole. They didn't catch anything, but were happy just throwing out their line, reeling it back in, then doing it again.

Mason ended up doing great and he and I stayed the night. Around 8 I put him to bed following our normal routine. He had his little pack in play in the tent and after I put him to bed he stayed up for a while poking at the sides of the tent, but never cried, and eventually went to sleep. I was amazed considering it was still bright outside, the kids were running all around being loud right outside the tent, and he was sleeping in a strange place. This was only his second time sleeping away from home and I'm always so nervous after the torture Carter always put us through during trips we took his first year. We have a few more things planned this summer and hope they go as smoothly.

The bad part is that Mason wants to be down crawling ALL the time. The only place to let him do that was in the tent. He thought is was fun at first, but then just kept trying to escape! Later in the evening this caravan of 3 cars pulled up and proceeded to pull into the spot next to us. We cringed and groaned as they looked like a rough crowd. Luckily they were just pulling through to the other side and we were neighbor-less on that side. Then, we realized that everyone around us probably did the same thing when we pulled in with a baby. One of the neighbors asked us in the morning how the baby did at night, so I'm sure they did the cringe and groan when we arrived. Not to worry, Mason sleeps like a champ!

Roasting some hotdogs for dinner.

This is what morning looked like. Mason woke up first around 7 am. I got him out of his bed and he was crawling around on my air mattress. After a few minutes he spotted Colby and Carter and went CRAZY yelling at them and climbing all over them to wake them up.

Chloe is the worst sleeper. She wakes up and paces around. The spoiled little dog is always mad she doesn't have a nice cozy bed to sleep on when we camp and she is always trying to steal everyone else's spots.

Yes, we bring the ipads camping!

After breakfast Mason and I headed home. The boys wanted to do more fishing and its no fun for Mason to just sit in the stroller in the hot sun all day. The boys stayed a few more hours. I think we are going to try it again in a few weeks (different place much farther from home). Hopefully it goes as smoothly!
