Carter played his last game of soccer today and had a great game. He has loved playing soccer and wants to play again in the fall, but we have been surprised how timid he is on the field. He's a really athletic kid, but wasn't very aggressive when playing. For example, if he got a chance to kick the ball he would, but then he wouldn't follow through. He would just kick it in the right direction and then let someone else take it from there. Or, if all the kids were close together trying to get the ball he wouldn't kick. It appeared he was afraid of kicking someone. Well, all that changed today. In the first few minutes of the game he scored a goal. His first of the entire year. He was pretty excited. During one of his breaks he was whining that he wanted a Kona Ice (the snow cone truck parked in the parking lot). We had gotten Colby one because Carter got cotton candy during Colby's game earlier in the day. We had originally told him that he couldn't have one since he already got cotton candy. He knows I'm a softy when it comes to treats though, so he kept asking. I told him because he was doing a great job and scored a goal he could have a small one. He countered back that he wanted a medium. We agreed that if he scored another goal he could have a medium. Well guess what? That timid player that doesn't follow through after kicking the ball and usually plays more defense than offense was dribbling the ball up the field like a champ. He told his coach of our deal with about 5 minutes left (thanks for making me look like a bad parent buddy!) and the coach tried really hard to help him get a goal. He got really close about three more times, but didn't get the other goal. Once, he kicked and missed and another he assisted, but a team mate kicked it in instead. The second the coach said the game was over his face just dropped. He was so upset he didn't get another goal and he wouldn't be able to get his medium. We told him he played so well that he could have a medium anyway. It was the last game and he tried really hard. Its always amazing to see what they can do with a little bribery. Usually he is there to just have fun, but today he was there to play!
After goals he keeps track of the score on his fingers.
This is the classic Carter that we saw all season. Running around swinging his arms in circles, yelling and trash talking. He was a little bit of the team clown.
Goal! I think this is the one that he assisted with but the other boy kicked it in.
Jordan took a lot of video so I'll get that up shortly.
