Carter's 1st Birthday

The typical way to start this post would be to say something like, "Wow, I can't believe he is already one. Where did this year go?" But if I'm being honest, Carter's first year was a long one that tried every last bit of our patience. So, we are happily saying goodbye to his fussy, yet adorable, infant stage, and hello to the wonderful world of toddlerhood, which I'm sure will bring its own set of challenges. Carter is more anxious than anyone to grow up and be a kid rather than a baby. He wants to do everything that Colby does, eat anything Colby eats, and play with anything Colby is playing with. He adores his big brother. Nothing makes him happier than Colby playing and interacting with him. A few weeks before his birthday he began walking and is now full speed. He says mama and dada and knows what they mean. I love to hear him yell mama when he wakes up rather than just cry. We are transitioning to milk in sippy cups rather than formula in bottles, but he isn't too thrilled with cold milk yet. He spends most of his time wondering around the house playing with the various toys. He has started to imitate things I do...like talking on the phone, or mopping the floor with his stick horse. His birthday finally allowed him to move to a normal forward facing carseat which he is generally much, much happier in.

For his birthday, we went to out to dinner as a family, and then had cake and opened presents at home. I made two little car cakes (cars for Carter) and gave one to him to dig into. He was very neat about it and just dug a little hole on one side. He really wasn't that excited about the cake, but picked at it for a while. After cake we opened presents and he got a Little People farm, gumball machine toy thing, and some books.

He cried the whole time we sang happy birthday because he just wanted to touch the candle.

First taste...hum...what is this?

All done!

I am so impressed by this cake, Jen. Do you want to come over in August and make one for J? :)
