Mason's Room

I have always said that I would do a post about Mason's nursery makeover once everything was complete. I still have a bookshelf I want to paint once the weather warms up, but I recently realized that by the time that happened, I would have to lower the crib, and then you loose that "perfect crib" look. So, just days before Mason pulled up on the crib for the first time and it had to be lowered, I took a few pictures.

It took me months to decide what to do with this nursery. I wanted a change, but I was very picky and couldn't find anything I liked. Finally, I discovered Doodlefish Kids and really like the Joshua bedding set. The problem...it was $600 for just the bumper and skirt. I kept looking and came across a site for a small company that makes custom crib bedding. The prices were reasonable and I liked a lot of what she had, but still couldn't pick "the one". As I was reading all the info on the site they mentioned that they had duplicated many high end sets for a fraction of the cost. I emailed them the Joshua bedding set and asked if she could duplicate it. At first, I got the generic answer of "look through the site for something you like that's similar", but then a few days later I got another email that they had located the fabric and could make the bedding set for their normal custom prices. Score! It was less than half the cost.

Here is a picture of the overpriced set from Doodlefish.
Picking this set meant I was going to have to paint our crib white and then paint the dresser to match. It was a little time consuming, but not that hard and totally worth it. This was my first time painting furniture and I was scared to death I would ruin a perfectly good crib. It all turned out great and now I'm ready to paint other pieces in the house...once I finally finish that bookshelf of course!

Here are some pictures of the room before the makeover....well, way before when I was still decorating before our first was born. Carter's name was on the wall when I started this project!

And here is the room now. I'm not the best photographer when it comes to getting the lighting right indoors, so some of these pictures really don't do it justice.

I wanted the bumper ties to be charcoal gray to match the piping on the bumper. I hated the color blue she chose when I first got it, but its grown on me. That color is actually in the pictures above the crib, in the quilt my mom made to match, and just so happens to be the same color as my Boppy which I already owned.

I found these prints on Etsy. Super cute and way cheaper that the elephant artwork from Doodlefish.

I thought an all white dresser would be boring and a little girly, so I got brave and went for a two tone white and charcoal. LOVE the way it turned out. It's so unique.

Again, print from Etsy, along with the changing pad cover, and my car seat cover. I used a lot of Etsy for this baby!

I picked out fabrics when I was in Boise a month or so before the baby was born and my Mom made the quilt. It turned out beautiful.

I purchased the curtains from Target, bought an extra yard of the fabric used in the bedding, and just used iron on hem tape to attach the fabric to the bottom of the curtains. Super easy and cheap way to get extra long curtains.

And here is the bookshelf that sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm going to paint it white with the charcoal color on the back.

And there is Mason's room. A lot of work, but sooo worth it. I still sit in there while feeding him and admire it. It's so peaceful. Why does the baby always get the best decorated room in the house?!?!?
